/lol none of them were pretending honey/ Yes, they were, to varying degrees and that's pretty much the entire premise of the show. They all started out pretending to be something that they weren't and that's in regard to ALL the main characters and if you don't understand that, then you don't understand anything you've been watching.
Stefan never pretended to be good, because to “pretend” means to fake something. Did Stefan fake being good? No, he didn’t. Being good was in his nature as a human, and being bad became his nature when he turned. And I’m not excusing what he did to all those people, because it’s not forgivable, nor is it forgettable. But after he turned his humanity on again (with Lexi’s help), he made a choice to be good, to try and fight the blood addiction. He chose to have a different lifestyle, despite being a vampire that was created to slaughter. And he fights that urge every day, because he is selfless, and wants to be something more, something better than what the blood makes him.
But Damon, on the other hand, has never felt remorse for killing people. He doesn’t value human life, and he’s never made any effort to be better (except when he’s with Elena, but that doesn’t count, because he killed the entire Whitmore family behind her back and goes on killing sprees if she dares break up with him). He didn’t pretend to be a reckless, evil murderer and turned out to be the complete opposite. Therefore, yes, I’d say none of them pretended, though I do see your point.
